We would like to introduce you to the local hardy plant society. The (HPSE) Essex Group is a registered Group of the National Hardy Plant Society (HPS).

Membership of the National Society is necessary in order to join a local group and specialist groups at https://www.hardy-plant.org.uk. The Hardy Plant Society is a national organisation which exists to promote interest in growing hardy herbaceous plants.

The Essex Group brings together national HPS members from the county and surrounding area to enjoy a varied programme of talks and garden visits and more.

The HPS Essex Group holds monthly meetings on a Sunday from September to April. The meetings are held at The Village Hall, Snows Corner, Witham Road, Wickham Bishops, CM8 3JZ. There is ample free car parking.

At our members’ meetings there is a guest speaker with all perennial topics covered. Also a plant sales table, where members have the opportunity to purchase plants, and donate plants for sale to raise funds for the group. Complimentary refreshments are offered at each meeting.

During May to July/August a programme is arranged of garden visits throughout Essex and our members will have the opportunity to participate in at least one day coach trip per year. The Group issues three newsletters each year.

Members’ plant donations also enable us to provide a sales table at Hyde Hall Gardens Plant Heritage Fair in April and September. The stalls are staffed by HPS Essex Group volunteers. In April we also schedule a “seedling swap” when members exchange their recently cultivated seedlings. In addition, the opportunity to attend Conservation group meetings.

Regular members

  • Single membership: £7.00
  • Joint membership at the same address £9.00

Student membership

  • Single membership: £3.00
  • Joint membership for two students at the same address: £4.00

Prior to joining the Essex Group of the HPS, you need to join the national society. Visit the Join Us page to learn more and become a national member. Once you complete that process you will have a national HPS membership number which we need to know and include it in the form below.
